Try again Saturday 2005-12-03
Okey. So I’ll try again to post by email.
The wp-cron-mail succeds without hazzle, while wp-mail has given me some
error messes.
Here we go again.
Changed destination directory
Earlier I changed the WP directory from wordpress to blog.
Posting by email has lately resulted in error messages from MySQL
stating some SQL error.
I’ve now changed the upload directory in WP accordingly.
Anfang or Drop Caps
It might be nice to have the possibility to start a post with a Drop Cap or Anfang.
From Mandarin Design we have this tip ( view source if you like ).
For this one we want to force the first big letter to span about five lines. The font-size is adjusted to exactly 100 pixels while the line height is 70 pixels.
We tried a line-height of 80 but that leaves a little too much white space.
Ändrat språk i MySQL
Okey now. I’ve changed the language in MySQL to Swedish ( utf-8 ).
Probably this will not affekt the storage in tables or the behaviou of the Subject line, when posting by email.
Tryed to post this as Unicode UTF-8 from Mozilla Thunderbird – but got a refusal from MySQL about an error
Amazing SpellBound
I just installed Robert Strong’s amazing spell checker SpellBound, a plug-in for Firefox.
It allows you to do spell checking on any HTML form in your browser, before submitting the content to the server. It is built on the code for the Mozilla Thunderbird spell checker, and uses the slightly tuned dictionaries from OpenOffice.org.
It installs itself with a button on the tool bar that, when clicked, renders all suspicious words red and underlined. Clicking on such a word pops up a list of suggested words to choose among.
If you’re using the wrong dictionary, SpellBound may even discover this and suggest the right one, giving you the choice tho switch or keep the one you are using. Impressive!
SpellBound is a pleasure for any blogger or writer of Q or A in discussion groups , but a heavenly plug-in for those of us that writes in a non native tounge.
Often when I post to news groups, I’m so eager to make my point, that I end up submitting a comment with quite a few misspellings. It’s very embarrassing, as I know it will affect the focus on what I have to say.
When I given myself the time to spell check, I’d have to write my comment in some other program that has a spell checker – it may have been Word or Frontpage. When that’s done, I normally have to copy the text to a pure text editor to get rid of harmful proprietary styling code or markup. Finally I’d copy the text to the form input area. It’s a tedious work flow and for a lazy poster like me, it’ not always done.
Many roses go to Robert, who for lack of time, has closed down his contact form on Sourceforge. Thanx Robert for this must have plug-in!
Cangeing blog directory
Changing the directory of the WP blog in the same document root very simple.
You can move the WordPress installation to another directory on the same server or to any other server, using a strict routine as outlined elsewhere [ link here ]. If however you just want to rename the WP directory, it is a very simple two step process.
In this example my WP directory is <docroot>/wordpress and I want it to be <docroot>/blog, and the process goes like this:
1. From the admin Dashboard, under Options, I change the WordPress address (URI) and the Blog address (URI) to read <docroot>/blog
2. Using an FTP client, I rename the wordpress directory to blog
That it! Everything works fine including the permalinks.
Watch out!
This is not feasible for a blog, that’s out in the open!
All links pointing to your blog posts or categories by permalink are destroyed.
Hi I’m Petit ..
This is just to tell you that one may have test writers i WP which do not have any other adminstrative right, than to allow or prevent comments. For this post I have disagreed to get any comments. I’d like this post to b stand alone. If this were a political statement that would be cruel
Making a page Thursday 2005-12-01
I’ve made my first page and posted this exciting news to my two existing areas.
You’ll find it here – the test page.
