I have just finished my first use of distort image, only been using actionscript for a little while, so be kind. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
(I did start with the 3d cube, but found it a bit difficult to do what I wanted....will try again when I have more time).

I was inspired by the itunes albumart viewer - some way to go till it gets there though.

It is a menu tool which reads an image and link from an xml file. The movement is done in two parts which means that with a few changes of some variables the effect changes.

Unfortunately, I realise now that my method is not very good. I have done the distortion in two parts, using two DistortImage. I dont know why I did this. However, it led me to have to swap the bitmap in each of distortimage when the picture reaches halfway so that it can make the full trip around. This has led to an annoying flicker which you will notice - I have tried to overcome this using an overlaying image during the swap, but it doesnt want to know.

I have also noticed that more than one of these running at a time really hurts, and loading in too many images from the xml file seems to slow things as well. Once I get past about 30 images it cracks.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Héhé good start (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Yes I can see the flicking problem you talked about. There should be a simpler solution for sure, but in any case, that's a good start.

I'm always happy to see people using it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Ok, so I have completely rewritten the whole thing...now I have two different problems, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) maybe someone can help.

I have posted the swf at
http://www.sandfields.co.uk/games/cube/cube2/1.html
http://www.sandfields.co.uk/games/cube/cube2/2.html
http://www.sandfields.co.uk/games/cube/cube2/3.html

There appears to be a white rectange on the stage...Dont know where from. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) I think it is not always there as sometimes it seems to load ok. When the rectangle appears the whole thing seems to run really really slowly and my computer almost gives up. If I reduce the number of images loaded, it seems to go, but I dont understand why.

The other problem is with the images I am loading. I have attempted to resize them so that any image could be loaded, rather than just 200x200 images, but it just doesnt work.

fla, images and xml attached in zip

Hope someone can help this novice.
Cheers

The zip is too large becaue of pictures, but you can download it from http://www.sandfields.co.uk/games/cube/cube2/AlbumArt.zip
