Hi all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm quite happy to finally be able to present to you the 1.2 BETA release of Sandy!
It took a long time to optimize, complete, the prevous release, but that's it.

I can show you this frist draft of the 1.2 that I'm testing since several weeks. It seems to be ok for me, but you'll certainly find some features I forgot to add, some bugs I forgot (or failed) to fix. That's why it is a BETA (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)


Concerning the new features :
  • Performance improvment
  • New Sequence3D and Parallel3D classes! Sandy is offering to you a real complete and relieable 3D animation system (frame based)
  • Camera modification, you don't need to give a strange focal value. You can play with projection values as it is done in OpenGL.
  • New object event system! Much faster and stable.
  • Possibility to force a depth for an object. Really usefull to avoid some z-sorting problems.
  • possibility to hide an object very simply.
  • Cache problems fixed
  • Interpolators are improved and much more stable.
  • Possibility to change the transparency of your TextureSkin on the fly (need some extra tests)
I'm quite sure to forget new cool things, but you'll discover them by yourself (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I'll provide some examples and sources soon. Especially to explain what Sequence3D and Parallel3D can do !!
For instance, some example and supplied below. You can find the really expected Kitty demo sources (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hi kiroukou,
I'm glad that sandy is becoming a good and feature-complete 3D engine for flash we all were waiting for for ages. I wish you good luck and happy sandy's life, and it's wide commercial usage.

From my wishlist for sandy, the only 2 items that aren't marked as implemented ;-):
  • Make Object3D's transformable like in TransformGroup (iirc). Something like TransformableObject3D. Jsut because if working on lots of 3D objects that should not be binded in any way, creating new transformGroup for each sounds insane and unreadable. TransformGroup should of course remain.
  • Make camera more like and Object3D

Everything except of these was implemented in 1.1 or 1.2.


P.S.: Sandy is much better than papervision3d

Zaba > I don't think to do something like you are proposing. A transformGroup is a node, and an Object3D is a leaf. The scene Tree represetnation wants this.
And is it that complicated to define a transformGroup each time?

In short, it's quite difficult to sometimes, when working with lots of independent Object3Ds. I was talking about TransformableObject3D as something like TransformGroup that already includes Object3D.

But what I want to know most is, that I have working example in Sandy1.1 and I change it to Sandy1.2 and now screen is just white...is problem of new Camera? I was trying to set setPerspectiveProjection to some other values, but nothing works...Im using sandy from ZIP not from SVN...

Does anybody know, what can cause problem?

Kiroukou, since some of the core code has changed...how about a quick example of how to create a world, add a camera, add a simple object, add a transform and then render it.

That way the lazy among us (including me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ) don't have to work out all the changes for ourselves.

Ignore the above i've just discovered the test classes !! That should do the trick.

Hi Franto.
Hum it seems that I have included some old examples in the zip file (or on the svn?).... Sorry about that!
But eg the kitty demo should work fine, right?
Otherwise I can't say what there is the problem.

The main thing that changed in the API is the camera constructor.
You don't need anymore to set a perspective value. The screen (viewport) is the only parameter required.

Can you tell me which example is not working in the ZIP file?

Did you try to compile with Flash 8 compiler or MTASC.

It seems that there is (AGAIN!) a problem with MM compiler. It is breaking in inheritance chain. Poor compiler....
