I have been trying to make sure I fully understand the file format structure for the ASE file format.
I have exported a simple sphere from Studio Max (8) as a .ASE file format.

Now here is the odd thing.
The file formats are the same, but the structure is a bit different, so I wanted to see if I am right in my assumptions.

For example:
Attached: Test2.ASE will work just fine.
Attached: Test3.ASE will NOT work.

Now I am assuming is is because test2.ase is using tabs between the value as where test3.ase is not.

Am I right or on some .max crack here.

You are right!
The parser is using the tab as separator between values.
All the files I had were formatted this way.

Is there an option in 3DS MAx 8 during the ASE export to chose space or tabs?

Otherwise I'm afraid to not be able to fix it soon, so I propose you (or another member) to give it a try smile.gif It should not be that hard.

OK that clears up a ton of headaches!!!

Next question:
What is the file size limit of an .ase file export?
(This is so freaking fun!!!)

I think a 150 ko ASE file is the limit you can play with.
I've done some tests with a 137 ko file and everything runs correctly smile.gif

I fgound out if you do it right you can handle large files.
I just did a 341kb file and it loaded with no issues.

Yes it can be loaded, but the engine will have a lot of problems to render it smile.gif

I see what you mean.
I have many advanced 3D objects that due to the number of polys in the model it will not render correctly or even get displayed.

Is there a repository of good sample ASE files that work with Sandy 1.1 anywhere?

Cheers,

No but I'm working with O.P work, on a parser that would parse perfectly ASE and WRL formats.
